This Way to the Stars

The original book was around 400 pages and it was my thought to have very little written on each page so that the reader could flip through the pages rapidly. The problem with that was that it would have brought the retail price of the book up to $50 and that seemed unacceptable for the broad audience I wanted to reach.
Another aspect of my intent is in rocking the edge between art and reality or imagination and engineering. By staying right on the edge, by keeping the delineation a little foggy, I think a certain human energy and will can be attached to the project; a kind of hope mixed with pragmatism.
The astonishing reality is however, that the probe mentioned in the book is not really imagination as may be suggested by the above. One doesn’t come up with ideas for how to build an interstellar probe out of a vacuum. Mike Miller and Larry Maurer tell part of how they came up with their idea in their book Debris.
